Is this a real, legal signature?

For ordinary agreements, a typed or drawn signature is legally recognized in the US (ESIGN/UETA), the EU and UK (eIDAS), Canada, Australia and many other countries. This tool places your signature on your PDF and gives you a normal, self-signed document.

What it does not add is an audit trail or tamper-evident seal, so it offers limited evidence of who signed and that the file wasn’t changed — which can matter if a signature is ever challenged. Don’t use it for wills, deeds, court or family-law documents, notarized documents, or anything your local law requires to be witnessed, notarized, or signed with a qualified/advanced signature.

Need a signed document with a full audit trail and a tamper-evident seal — or need other people to sign it too? Create a free Evenseal account. This is not legal advice.

Need the other party to sign it too?

Send any document for signature and get back a sealed, certified copy with a verifiable audit trail. Free to start — one flat price when you’re ready for unlimited sending.

Frequently asked questions

Is signing a PDF this way legally valid?+
For most everyday agreements, yes. A typed or drawn signature is a valid electronic signature under laws like the US ESIGN Act and UETA, the EU and UK’s eIDAS rules, and equivalents in Canada, Australia and many other countries. This free tool creates a self-signed document without an audit trail, so it offers limited proof of who signed if a signature is ever disputed. Are electronic signatures legal?.
Does my file get uploaded to your servers?+
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser — your PDF is opened, signed and saved on your own device and is never sent to us. That also means we can’t see it, store it, or share it.
When should I NOT use this free tool?+
Don’t use it for wills, deeds, court or family-law documents, notarized documents, or anything your local law requires to be witnessed, notarized, or signed with a qualified/advanced electronic signature. For those, follow the specific legal process required.
I need someone else to sign too. Can I do that here?+
This free tool is for signing your own document. To send a document to other people to sign — with a full audit trail and a tamper-evident seal on the finished file — create a free account. See plans and pricing.
What files can I sign?+
Any standard PDF up to 25 MB and 200 pages. Password-protected, XFA-form, and already-digitally-signed PDFs aren’t supported — remove the password or save a flat copy first.
